The Olympic Stadium

The most renowned and spectacular of the Olympic Park buildings, the Stadium and its famous Tower are the emblems of Montreal on the international scene. Since the 1976 Olympic Games, the Stadium has received more than 67 million visitors!

With around 56,000 seats in the stands, it is the only covered amphitheater in Quebec and can host huge events, counted either by the number of spectators expected or due to the magnitude of the spectacular shows promoters can present there.

Designed by French architect Roger Taillibert as requested by Mayor Jean Drapeau, the Olympic Stadium was built from 12,000 prefabricated elements, most of which weigh several tons. More than 10,000 men and women worked on the Stadium to be sure it was ready for the Olympics.

The Olympic Stadium is a unique monument: like a giant hand with curved fingers, the thirty-four cantilever panels, to which 4 shortened panels were added at the base of the Tower, establish a flowing geometry for the structure. Officially, they support the technical ring, the roof and the scoreboards.

The technical ring can be compared to a two-story house, whose first floor houses the ventilation equipment with the ground floor securing the stadium lighting, containing over eleven hundred 2000 watt lights!

A true champion of metamorphosis, the Stadium adapts itself to countless and diverse events: fairs, sporting events, motor sports, shows, exhibitions, film shoots, social events, etc.

Since its inauguration, the Stadium has been one of the busiest covered stages in the world.
